Sears Moon Mobile Scout Wagon Explorer

Hi Woodsy

Sending you a piccy as requested by Wotan. Here's a photo of one I found in an antique shop here in Finland. Missing bits and pieces like one railing and the little green figures from the deck, but I still find it pretty decent.

Cheers
Arto

The vehicle looks rather like the Deora custom pick-up truck, except it seems to have tracks rather than wheels. The yellow structure at the rear looks like a diving tower, the sort of thing you see divers jumping off at the Olympic Games. A pretty odd sort of thing to put on a space toy. Is the jet at the back a normal part of the toy, and is it a real aircraft type or a fictional design ?

    1. I have a feeling that this series of Bandai Sears toys were fictitious Paul. Perhaps the most beautiful and sleek is this Area Radiation Tester https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.worthpoint.com%2Fworthopedia%2Flarge-o-sears-exclusive-tin-1748271758&psig=AOvVaw3nUgTWu2KHflvKeVlqibUi&ust=1591484313682000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCJj26pvj6-kCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAI What do you think?

The Area Radiation Tester is very nice, but I prefer the super-sized Deora with the diving platform in the back - it's just such a nutty combination.

  3. Paul I can see the resemblance to the Deora pickup truck, which is a beauty in its own right.

The yellow tower can be moved back and forth by a crank. The Explorer jet belongs to the toy and is a real aircraft, which of course is a bit peculiar in lunar circumstances.

  5. Didn't Marx do a die-cast Elegant Miniature of it?

  6. The Moon Mobile Scout could easily have served as a guest vehicle on 'Thunderbirds', as could the Radiation Tester vehicle. Toys were SO cool back then.
