HOME-MADE SKY SHIP 1 FINISHED!

After wrestling with different shades of blue I eventually settled on Mediterranean and finished my homage to the Bandai Sky Ship 1 toy.

Phew! It was fun though.

It's core are two cheap spirit levels. I've used two of the bubble windows as port-holes on the sides.

The silver band is baco-foil.

The landing gear are various dud circuitry parts and a whole lotta buttons.

The gondola is an old P and O Cruises Ferry I had.

That's my last lockdown project I reckon. Back to school on the 15th June! Drat!

See what you think of this final junkpile effort.

  1. It is a really complex toy to build so once again a major effort from the Atelier Moonbase well executed. Looks fab!

    1. Thanks Arto. Much appreciated. It was fun to make. Once I had the two spirit levels it came together, especially with a shade of blue I liked. The real Bandai toy is a much lighter blue than the C21 Zero-X isn't it?

  2. Not so much lighter Woodsy, but different - a kind of blueberry blue with a silvery sheen.

    1. To add, a sheen that can come across as a lighter blue in photographs.

    2. Interesting Arto. Iridescent like a magpie?

  3. Frankly, I never liked the original design, so from my point of view yours is better Woodsy, because it's more dynamic ! Well done.

Quite an adventure to get to the winning post! Still, you learn a lot by pushing yourself to new heights. The downside is the inevitable dismays when something goes wrong! I feel your pain literally as i have put aside "easy" models on my bucket list in order to make my own soft vinyl toys from scratch. So far it has been continual dismay, but also 2 steps forward, 1 back.
Keep up your good work (job permitting!)

  5. From the Junkpile to Legend! An extraordinary job, creating an iconic vehicle from things at hand. Your "home made toys" are the best!

    1. Thanks a bunch Scoop! Glad you like the colour. Phew! That first one was awful. You'll have a couple of spirit levels knocking around too I bet!

  8. Another beautiful creation Woodsy, and you keep on surpassing yourself!
Once this crisis is over you ought to stage an exhibition. :)

    Best -- Paul

    1. Thanks a lot Paul. Much appreciated. I was as it happens thinking of a group shot of the Lockdown junkers - a sort of virtual display of all of them. I tried one last year of my earlier SpaceX II home-made stuff, inspired by your own iconic group shot of your SpaceX II toy collection, one of the best and most important toy photographs I've ever seen. Yours I mean. Not mine!

    1. Thanks a lot Wote. With School re-opening a week tomorrow my head's a box of scraps with nowhere to go. I doubt I'll be modelling for a while worst luck.
