TUGBOAT BANK

Hello Woodsy,

Looking for something else I found the tugboat bank. One hefty lump of die cast metal with a small locked door on the bottom but as far as I could see no slot for coins?

Interesting to see what people searched for to discover MC. I liked WOTAN's reply.

  1. Lovely bank that Terran, you have an amazing collection! I once bought a tinplate boat like this at a car boot sale. It was quite old. I'll have to find a piccy. It was Japanese. I see this is Texaco. I think that's still a petrol brand available here. Its ironic given the current souring of US-China relations that this icon of Texas was made in China!

That is a really nice model. Some of these banks have a concealed coin slot, with a hinged or removable cover. On my Ford Tri-motor bank the cockpit cover lifts up. I had a look on Ebay and discovered that this is one of a series of three tugboat money boxes by Ertl, each available in different finishes. I finally found a photo of one showing the coin slot - I will send Woodsy a copy of this. The section with two white pipes, just behind the funnel, appears to lift off, exposing the coin slot. Hope this helps.

  3. I had one of these as well. Ertl made some very nicely done banks as well as other diecast toys.
