Kinder Eggs-Ibit III

Some of the first models to catch my collecting eye.

1950's compact cars, as visualised by Kinder eggs.

Repurposing some of the figures and Heller building kits that my dad originally used for my Matchbox Motorway layout.

These are great little models, I might start collecting Kinder Surprise eggs again, if they are producing models like this. How old are these cars ? Heller model buildings ? I was not aware this French firm had ever produced model railway buildings, but they look terrific with the cars. Really nice.

  2. I could be wrong about Heller, they date from the sixties. Ive got a catalogue somewhere, ill check it out. Cars are from 1999. They are still available though, ive just bought a set on ebay this week.

Thank you for going to the trouble of checking, it was just that I did not recall ever seeing any mention of buildings by Heller. There are lots of companies in Germany producing model railway accessories, with Faller being one of the big names. They certainly go well with the cars.

  6. I agree with Paul A, Heller was a French manufacturer, primarily of scale airplane models, and to my knowledge they did not make any railroad structures. A Danish company called HelJan made quite a few HO/OO scale structures. And Faller made tons of these types of kits. However, that building in two of the pix, with the Café Rose sign on the side of it, is from a company called Wiad, also reissued under the Vau Pe brand, one of my favorite companies from Western Germany - and I happen to have one of those very buildings on my own HO scale layout! These little dioramas are brilliant, by the way!

Yes, all are real cars of the 1950s. The Kabinenroller is actually a Messerschmitt design, and is a three-wheeler, with tandem seating. Great models.

  8. I recognise the Messerschmidt, so I assumed the others were legit too. I have some other actual historical cars coming up later.

The Cafe Rose is a lovely little kit. My dad built a big six foot diorama for my birthday when I was about 7 for the Matchbox Motorway and put the cafe and a couple of other houses on it. Luckily it was rescued from the attic before it all ended up in the bin.
