POCKET MONEY POSTCARDS BY TONY K

These are my pocket money purchased sci fi art postcards, from the 1970s.

I found them upstairs in an obscure shop. They were displayed on a rotating rack.
I accumulated them over three consecutive Saturdays.

They reminded me of the sort of art I was drawn to - stuff by Chris Achilleos, Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo.

There were quite a few other sci fi and fantasy postcards featuring designs by other genre artists of the day.

I'd like to have picked up more, but was restricted by my hard earned pound-a-week income.

  4. Lovely Tone. Thanks! Some look so familiar. I know the Roger Dean pic from my Views book by him. It even says Views on the back of your card. The pic is an LP cover, Nitro Function by Billy Cox. You can listen to it if you want! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvo5VO5urOg PS. sorry I swamped your article with more posts. I forgot I'd scheduled them! It's cos I'm home.

    1. Thanks for the Billy Cox link, Woodsy. I was aware of it, but I've never taken the time to check it out. Now's a good time, ha ha :)

  5. Very nice artwork, all of those would make album covers for rock bands of the late 70's- MJ Southcoast Base

    1. I agree Mark. They have a certain period look about them which suggest the seventies. I could certainly see them as album covers back then :)

  6. I love that last shot, the Tartars. Such a fab dragon. Its unusual to see a white one. There's another one, a friendly worm, in the Neverending Story I think.

  7. Aren't dragons wonderful mythical beasties, Woodsy! Even today they just continue to grow in stature and popularity. Love the series or hate it, dragons were stealing screen time to great visual effect throughout the TV saga, Game of Thrones. Dragon culture is currently popularised through A4 size 3D fantasy art, produced by artist Anne Stokes :)
