Amen and Out

All confined to barracks here on Mars Base too. Its a strange situation, having to suddenly deal with working from home for the forseeable. It's a bold move and I am pleased its been put into effect.

Working in a large university, it was really disconcerting to see students under 25 flagrantly disregarding the national emergency guidelines and grouping together like it was any normal time. Just because they are in the low risk category, its assumed they are immune to paltry coughs and sneezes and they were just going about their normal socialising with no regard for the staff having to pick up after them.  Its a life changing time and I welcome the sweeping alterations to everyday life.

While I understand that it is going to be desperately hard for many people to cope, I think society does need a good shake up to refocus on the more important issues like basic health and wellbeing, love and care and get away from accumulating likes on social media and buying the latest tech. Ignorance and stupidity need to be quarantined and the frenzy of fake news and utterly stupid commentry on social media needs to be contained, rather than fanning the flames of panic, which is leading to panic buying, theft and criminal activity.

I can only hope that a remedy is discovered soon and the situation can possibly be contained, although recovery from this cultural nosedive is going to be a long time coming.

Take care people and stay safe.

  2. Hunker down Bill and get some of those fine vintage toys out that you have stashed away! As for a cultural nosedive it won't mean a jot once we're back up and running next year.

Now 205 cases in NZ, and a State of National Emergency has been declared. Alert Level 4, meaning lock-down, comes into force at midnight tonight. Good luck everyone.
