TERRANOVA47'S HOT WHEELS COCKNEY CABS

Hi Woodsy

As a follow up to Wotan's recent post on Hot Wheels.

I didn't care for the models and it was years later that I bought two Cockney Cabs from the first Hot Wheels issue.

It was clearly based on the Austin FX3 that I used to drive.

Above, pictured are the Cabs with a 1/42 scale FX3.

  2. When an art student in the 60's I owned and drove a 1956 Austin FX3 taxicab when it had finished it's ten year working life.. It was the ideal vehicle for carrying large portfolios on the open side and for taking the whole group of students on field trips. I collected models of London taxis and discovered that the only British car in the Hot Wheels range was indeed a Hot Rodded FX3.

Now at this later date seeing your recent post the rest of the Hot Wheels range look more interesting. At the time as they couldn't be used on my OO train layout they were of little interest.

I have the Cockney Cab from it's Beatles Yellow Submarine issue, where it's John Lennon's ride (Wot, no Rolls Royce in psychedelic paint?) But George Harrison's ride is more accurately a Morris Mini!
I can send some pics of the whole series in my custom display case if anyone's interested...
