RANGER DANGER

Its odd when you see your own words on another site. Re-used pictures are commonplace but not words, so I was surprised to see this I wrote in 2010:

http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2010/06/ranger-book-1967.html

on an entry for the Ranger Annual on Amazon!

https://www.amazon.com/Ranger-Book-1967-Fleetway-Publications/dp/B0056UA6DU

I'm pretty sure that isn't my Amazon entry!

Does this happen to you?

  1. I sometimes see my replicas on websites being used to illustrate articles on the things that they are only replicas of!

    1. Art imitating Life Kev, literally! Are you flattered?

  2. Yeah, someone created another site and ripped off my blogposts wholesale. Don't know if it's still up or not. And someone set up a fake Twitter account in my name, using my blog avatar, and indulged in a catalogue of lies, smears and distortions. As it was described as a 'parody' by the miscreant, Twitter wouldn't do anything about it. I pointed out that telling lies in a smear campaign is far from parody, but I think it's an automated response system that doesn't have any real people look at the circumstances. Don't know if that's still up either.

    1. Sounds pretty awful that Scoop, something I dread, fingers crossed. My blog was 'sindicated' by Planet die-cast ten years ago without my permission [at least I don't think I gave it]. Moonbases's earlier posts are still there! I wouldn't mind. Planet Diecast is a toy cars site and forum and its members know everything about toy cars. they really don't need any of my space stuff on there!

  3. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery Kid! But that is pretty naughty, its too easily done as well and as you say, soc media doesn't really do much to combat it.

    1. Yeah, but it's also the biggest form of laziness, W. Perhaps, in the case of the other blog, they just wanted content in order to attract advertising, but it was (as you say) a bit 'naughty'.

  4. Moonbase Central's material is often pillaged by other sites and either plagiarised or used by another site, wholesale. The funniest iterations are the lazy sods who list things on ebay, do a quick google and then lift the text from a blog post for the wording, such as 'Project Sword Badge made by Wotan' or 'Golden Astronaut by Paul Vreede'. I know Scoop has had some of his Eagle photos nicked by an ebay seller too.
