Nah, bought the Matchbox one, then the Vivid Imaginations one a few years later. Also got a smaller Tracy Island playset, but can't remember if it's by Matchbox or VI. Still got all three.
I recall seeing the Matchbox Tracy Island in a model shop, but it was expensive and I was not into collecting diecasts at the time, so did not buy one. Much later I bought a Japanese plastic kit of Tracy Island, with tiny models of the Thunderbirds craft, and a lot of springs. Not sure where it is at the moment. At over $100 NZ it was the most expensive kit I have ever bought. What a great programme Blue Peter is, and what a great build. Very detailed for something made out of cardboard, tinfoil, and yogurt pots. This did not screen in NZ as far as I know, at least not when I was little. I might even have a go at it myself, but using a few left over kit parts from my spares box. The folding palm trees were my favourite part of Thunderbirds, I loved them.
I wonder which kit you bought Paul. I once sent a mint boxed Matchbox Tracy Island to NZ when I was an old toy seller in the late 90's and early 00's. They paid £50 for the toy and nearly the same for the shippinG!
