Christmas cards are on the wane I think.
We receive far fewer than before and we send very few out ourselves.
I don't think this is to do with Scrooge-like miserliness. Its more to do with an awareness of paper and tree-felling I imagine.
I often hear people saying that they haven't sent cards this year but they have donated to charity. This makes sense in huge establishments like schools and hospitals, where thousands of cards being exchanged would seem excessive.
I do like getting cards though, especially from friends who I've not heard from in a while. So if you were one of those then thank you!
Alas, we restrict our card giving to immediate neighbours and close family these days, so don't be offended if I haven't sent you a card.
Do you send a lot of Christmas cards?
I wonder if they'll vanish altogether one day?
...and just when I decided to cut back on sending cards this year, guess what? After rummaging around in the closet I found SEVEN boxes of cards, several nearly full. Oh for crying-out-loud!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI can't help but wonder if there's a direct link between receiving fewer and sending out very few yourselves, Woodsy. A circular link, in that if you send fewer, that's what you receive, and vice versa. I send out very few. I do, however, send a card to each of my old houses, as it gives me a nice feeling to think that something of mine (and therefore me in spirit) is there over Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right about decreasing circles Kid. I like your idea of sending letters to childhood homes. I would only need to send one. Nice thought.
