When did you stop bothering about toys for Christmas when you were young?
I hear youngsters now, 11 and 12 year olds, excited about a new mobile phone or tablet this Christmas. Certainly not toys.
Is that when it happened to us, 11 or 12 or younger, when we wanted more practical stuff for Christmas instead of cool spaceships and action figures?
Or have gizmos and gadgets taken the role of toys for this new generation?
What do you think readers?
I do remember space toy presents giving way to radios, tape recorders and TV's but I'm not sure at what age.
ReplyDeleteMaybe its gradual over a few years when it happens Kev?
DeleteMy parents might have stopped giving us toys, but I continued to want them. More than socks and deodorant.
ReplyDeleteI still try to give people 'toys' for Christmas... meaning fun things, not practical stuff. Sometimes I get weird stares, but most of the time folks are surprised and happy.
Oh, and books count as 'toys' for me.
Thats lovely that Knobgobbler. Keeping the giving of toys alive! Well done!
DeleteFor meit was actually around 13, maybe 14 after that HO scale model trains were the thing. Still toys I s'pose but in a different vein.
ReplyDeleteTrains eh Ed. You were on track there! There's a guy on TV here that is promoting model trains to us all. He's called James May. Does TV shows about model train lay outs!
DeleteSimply: I NEVER stopped! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood one ST! That's the spirit!
