BIG FIREWORK

When it comes to fireworks, one of my favourite rockets is the mighty Fireball XL5...

  1. Great looking craft. Originally, it was called Century 21 and had a much sleeker, futuristic look. I prefer the more well-known version, but that's probably due to childhood nostalgia.

    1. That's right, Kid. I've got some of Reg Hill's concept paintings reproduced on postcards that Fanderson produced a while back. The second Supercar annual is also worth a look as it features a spacecraft called Super-R in several strips which looks a lot like Century 21.

    2. Yeah, I've seen that cover. I've also got it on the blog somewhere, as well as those concept paintings. Fireball appeared in TV comic Annual before it had been shown on TV, and the craft is the Century 21 design, though it has the Fireball colours, which I suspect may have been an alteration to the art before publication. That's on my blog too.

    3. I think I saw that. I've got a couple of old TV Comic annuals. The Fireball artwork is pretty bad, Neville Main I think.

    4. Yeah, but it was okay for a comic for kids of the age it was aimed at - the juniors.

    5. True. I certainly don't remember getting it much once I finished infant school.
