Steve, Matt and Venus; they'd know!

Whilst playing with my Spacex toys, I would often enjoy listening to the Gerry Anderson LP 'World of Tomorrow'. I got this and 'Lady Penelope Presents' from a supermarket in the late sixties. I recall there was another LP with Captain Scarlet on the front in his jetpack. The two LP's have been to hell and back over the years, played to death by me, swapped to a mate, sold at a comic mart and then bought back by me, as I couldn't bear to see them go!

This is my favourite of the the two, both of which feature children meeting their heroes, Steve Zodiac and Troy Tempest. Both tracks are extremely well produced and voice acted with original actors and are really atmospheric pieces. It was easy to sit back, close my eyes and visualise the episodes from the audio.

Journey to the Moon is a little lads dream about meeting Steve, Matt and Venus on Fireball and their talk through of a moon mission, based on the Apollo flightplan. As Steve went through the various stages, I would enact the process with Interplanetary One from the Spacex Major MLP set, landing triumphantly on the rug with the Apollo Moon Exploring LEM. Its testament to Andersons choice of actors for the series, that Troy and Steve (and most of the other series cast) all sound genuine and believable in their parts and the suspension of disbelief is complete.

I wonder if the audio is available online somewhere, as I would love to hear them again!

  1. Fanderson reissued all the Mini-albums on CD, with replica covers of the originals. The Fireball one also includes an alternate ending, and it's interesting to compare with the original one. Thing is, you have to join Fanderson to be able to buy them, although I've managed to pick up three of them on ebay.
