NASA TRANSPORTERS

I adore these modern NASA rocket transporters. The pictures are courtesy of NASA.

This yellow flatform reminds me of the SpaceX Rocket Transporter I've just made a scratch model of! http://www.triangspacextoys.info/SpGAtoys/RTrs/RcktTrCP.jpg

This is a NASA Specialized Transporter.

These platforms are straight out of Thunderbirds!

And the huge cylinder looks like the Tri-ang SpaceX ATS body!

And this is obviously a Project SWORD Booster Rocket fuel cell!

Do you know of any rocket transporters you like?

  1. Those yellow rocket transporter thingies do indeed look like squished TB2 Elevator Cars! Probably the coolest thing NASA ever came up with. I think one of the big differences between SF vehicle design and their "real life" counterparts, other than the tendency towards streamlining in the concept stuff, is the use (or not) of color. Toy and book and model and movie artists tended to make all their spaceships quite colorful, for no particular reason other than aesthetic, whereas real rocketships tended to be generic and industrial (bare metal, white, grays, etc.) I understand why you wouldn't want the Saturn V to look like a giant Candy Cane, but something is missing from the bland, colorless spacecraft of the "real" world.

    1. I know what you mean Zigg. Oddly enough my own fave toy range, Project SWORD, is also rather bland in the colours chosen for the finish. Lots of greys and reds with the occassional blue and yellow. SpaceX on the other hand - Golden Astronaut in the US - was jam-packed with different colours and that's one of the reasons why I remember it so well, the rainbow of hues!
