    1. Thanks Arto! It was fun to do using old cassette and CD cases! Turned out better than I expected!

  3. Nice work! It takes me back to my childhood, where I couldn't afford all the wonderful space stuff that was out there, so I ended up making it myself too! (in my case, a Space Station for Major Matt Mason!)

    1. Thanks Lewis. Yep, making stuff I can't afford or doesn't exist is a good reason to do it. Your MMM space station sounds cool. What did you use?

    2. It's been fun watching this inventive project unfold and reach fruition, Woodsy. Fantastic mix-and-match of materials to achieve these ace results and create something so imaginative and aesthetically cool. The recycled lights are a particular gem. A well deserved, well done :)

    3. Woodsey; My MMM space station was a wooden stilt creation, made from chip board strips with balsa wood ladders.(remember the old "chip-board" before MDF replaced everything?) The crowning achievement was a clear plastic square dome from a Triang-Lionel Famous Inventors box (Thomas Edison) capped with a clear red christmas tree hemisphere to disguise the moulding mark in the centre. It had a moon map on one wall, cut out of a photograph in the Observer Sunday Magazine.
It had a bed, a hinging work table made out of cardboard and an entry airlock with a turn wheel made from the base of a Cherilea Mechanoid!
Oh, how I wish I had a photo of it!

Love the lights, that's taking it to a whole new level. Spacex-Plus :)
    All in all very convincing.

    1. Thanks so much Paul. Your seal of approval means a lot. What do you think of the scale of my model? I made it to carry the MLP rocket. Do you think that Tri-ang intended it to do that or something much smaller?

    2. The honest answer to that is that your guess is as good as mine, Woodsy.

I think the size you've made it is very effective and it looks right for carrying Interplanetary 1.
But as I've explained on my site here:
      http://www.triangspacextoys.info/SpGAtoys/RTrs/SpLTRTrs.html
I think the real toy was smaller, and part of the regular series on blister card. The two illustrations we have show it carrying something (capsule of some kind) under that triangular rack, which could very well have been sold with it. I wouldn't be surprised to find a hollow cargo space under that rack as well, but that's speculation on my part. But chances are we'll never know...

      Best -- Paul

    3. Thanks Paul. Very interesting.. Yes, it would be great to see this toy but one still hasn't turned up has it after all these years.

    4. I wish, Woodsy, I wish. Don't care who'd get them, so long as we'd get to see the missing three.

  5. Wow, what a beautiful new toy! I am impressed, and jealous! Knowing most of what went into it, you managed to turn it into a cohesive whole, and it truly looks "real," as in it looks like an actual lost toy from the day... More scratchbuild projects, please!

  8. What a fab job! The working lights just puts it over the top. Well done.

Looking at the art, it is a bit difficult to make out the wheels as the ones in the background look like rail car wheels while the near side ones remind me very much of the Lift Loader wheels that have a raised ridge in the middle of the "tread".

Given the size, I suspect they would have went with the LL type of wheel but that's just my opinion.

    1. Ta Lance. It was fun to make - out of CD cases! I know what you mean about the wheels. I ummed and aahed about them. I ordered some Loco wheels from Ebay but they came and were too small so I opted for making my own from two sizes of coin to give them that loco look. The planned size Triang had for this toy would be interesting to know. It seems big in the picture but maybe it was Lift Loader size, a small standard SpaceX rather than one of the bog ones like the Pulse.
