SIXTEEN 12 RETRO EAGLE

Sixteen 12 have released some new photos of their soon to be released Retrospective Eagle Transporter.

This great looking model which obviously takes it's inspiration from the Dinky Eagle Transporter is a limited edition of just 500, and due to pre-orders has already completely sold out.

So if you're one of the those who managed to secure one of these beauties I don't reckon it will disappoint.

It comes in some lovely retro packaging and a super looking display plinth reminiscent of the original Dinky packaging complete with clear blister cover.

It has some great chrome detail, red fuel tanks, white pod and the main body beautifully finished in that nostalgic green colour which most people hated at the time, but with the passing of time looks great now.

(although, some people still like to ask the question why did Dinky decided to paint it that colour, along with, to name but a few, their green UFO Interceptor, blue Thunderbird 2, white Maximum Security Vehicle and the different coloured Sam's Cars - The armchair experts have plenty of explanations as to why Dinky preferred certain colours - perceived military vehicles were generally green until Star Wars came along and  Dinky decided to change to blue on some of it's sci-fi related vehicles; white was deemed to be a poor seller,;chroming was dropped as a cost cutting measure, and so it  goes on. One rather dubious theory is at some point Dinky had an excess of metallic green paint! )

Sixteen 12 have already announced that they intend to release a Retro Eagle Freighter to compliment the Retro Transporter.

According to their website the Retro Transporter is due to be shipped at the end of this month, at the same time as their next two episode sets, The Exiles and New Adam, New Eve both of which are almost sold out.

  1. I saw Dinky Eagles before I ever saw Space:1999, I thought that green was the RIGHT colour!

    1. Yeah, I was like you,Kev, not seen them before either and it looked okay to me. As many people did at the time, once I'd seen the series I bought the white freighter and swopped the pod.:)

  2. What about the Corgi Moon Buggy from Diamonds Are Forever? Nothing like the colour of the one in the movie. I sometimes used to wonder if Corgi and Dinky just tried to make them different at some stage to attract new buyers? Then wee Jimmy who had 'inherited' his big brother's small green Thunderbird 2 might be tempted to buy (or ask his parents to buy) the larger metallic blue version. Of course, that would only explain later colour variants, not the original 1st release versions which differed from their TV or movie counterparts.

    1. Ah yes, the original Corgi moon buggy, a very attractive model. I suppose the same might apply to the Avengers Gift set which used a red Bentley and a white Elan, rather than British racing green and powder blue.

  3. A gorgeous model Scoop and thanks for sharing Sixteen 12's ongoing treasures with us. I can see why its sold out. Its clearly got the Dinky vibe and will remind collectors of when they got their first Eagle I imagine. Are you one the lucky owners?

    1. Yeah, when you think about it its a simple idea and its certainly proved popular. I know a few people who've re- painted their 12" MPC or Airfix kits this way and they look pretty cool.
As to whether I receive one when they are released, all I know is my name's in the hat. ; )
