HEROES & ZERO'S

Most fans of the CGI Thunderbirds are Go series will have already read the exclusive news released by the entertainment website Digital Spy last night.

A short video showing former Six Million Dollar Man, Lee Majors informs viewers that he is to voice 'Captain' Jeff Tracy in the series, which will begin screening the remaining held -back third season episodes at 8.00 a.m. on May 18th in the UK.

There's also another few tantalising glimpses of a legendary spacecraft in the clip, which has even got fans of the original series talking.

Scoop's tip: This might just be worth a watch.

  1. Oh my god, its about time too! As long as they don't have that ridiculous caretake character with his bloody potted plant in it, it should be good!

    1. I really don't like that character too, Bill, and I can't say I'm that keen on the Chaos Crew either. This Zero X interpretation looks pretty cool though. I wonder if we'll get a toy or model of it?

  2. The lift bodies appear to have become just wings now?! I wonder if Derek Meddings' estate gets royalties? :)

    1. Yes, it looks that way, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see, Yorkie. I suspect Derek's family won't be down for anything I'm afraid. He was cards in working for Century 21 when he designed it. I remember Mike Trim talking about his Spectrum Patrol Car design as a Dinky toy and remarking as he worked for the company, it was the company's design and any royalties.:/

  3. That's great news Scoop and something to look forward to. Thunderbirds the brand seems to be sailing in a good tailwind also otherwise, as it will be one of the main attractions of the upcoming London Resort theme park

As the French put it: Les héros ne sont pas des zéros!

    1. It's certainly looking like a high point for the brand, Arto, let's hope it gives the series a bit of a kick start as it I feel it hasn't had much presence for a while.

I did read about the proposed theme park, but to be honest I'm a bit dubious. It seems a bit too ambitious to me, but it would be great if it did happen. :D

    2. Wow. A SWORD vehicle on the telly! Yay! Imagine if they issue a toy Zero X!

    3. It would be great if they made a toy of it, but I won't hold my breath, Woodsy. The previous Vivid toy line just didn't appear to sell, and it looks like Bandai are hedging their bets with the new line.Still fingers crossed, eh :)

  4. A theme park sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, the brand doesn't carry as much weight anymore - look at the lacklustre presence at Weta Workshops. Chaos Crew and the seriously annoying Ned are the downside of a fairly good season 3, Scoop. As you say, its unlikely the OX will reach a toy line, as the reworked Fireflash disappeared after one episode and no real mention. Its clearly a sop to the original fans and little else. As to Yorkie's comment about the Lifting Bodies, in TAG, Zero X outshone the Thunderbirds vehicles in terms of complexity and wow factor, especially with the Assembly sequence. Im sure Weta wont want the Thunderbirds upstaged by a lesser vehicle, so I imagine this iteration of Zero X will only resemble the original in that it will fly in and crash, hopefully with Ned still on board with his blasted pot plant.

    1. Yeah, I have to agree with you Bill, the series does appear to have lost its momentum. I'm not sure about its intended audience of younger viewers but I know there are a few older fans out there but certainly not enough to sustain any lasting interest in a theme park which wouldn't be completed until the new series has been long forgotten by the general public.

Your Zero X idea holds true with me too. I don't think the producers would want something to overshadow their new designs. As a further thought,in line with current trends Weta's own original character of Kayo appears to have been pushed as the stand out character. She seems to be a lot smarter than the Tracy boys and is able to pilot some, if not all of the Thunderbird craft with equal skill to the Tracys'. I'm all for diversity but not at the cost of credibility.
