At the risk of being a bit gross...this looks like a Colonoscopy to me.Search for images online and you will surely agree.this poor gent has more than just a Polyp to worry about!
Looks like a small plaster model mountain, next to a Rolex watch body with a clear plastic hemisphere on top and sand sprinkled round the bottom, in front of a painting of a 'swirl' to me. Mish.
I think your'e getting somewhere with that Mish. Curtis often used Action Man/ GI Joe in their covers so it makes sense that they'd grab a few items and photograph them as well.
Its hard to say from the image, as its pretty low-res. But I would say its a painting.
