ANDY B'S RESTORED VAUXHALL CRESTA

Hi Woodsy,

Re. all the stuff you're posting on cars - here is one I restored a bit, a Matchbox Vauxhall Cresta. It was one of the first Matchbox toys I ever owned. I suppose that dates me! I also managed to reproduce a copy of the box, after much photoshopping.

All the best,

Andy B.

  1. A nice piece of restoration, Andy. I'd imagine you're pleased with the results, especially having own an identical model as a lad :)

  2. Nice restoration. Back in the 50's Matchbox production lines consisted of hundreds if not thousands of part time workers, mostly women who assembled the models. The range always included London buses as Matchbox had a few old ones that they owned to run certain routes of north London to carry their workers to and from the factory.

One of these workers was the aunt of one of my classmates. When this model was dropped from the range my classmate brought a large bag of the painted body shells of this Vauxhall to school. Everyone in my class at Highgate Primary School was given a few. Mine sat wheel less on my Bedford car transporter on my train layout.

Nice to see one with wheels!

  4. Thanks for your comments. Yeas, I was pleased, as it is the first restoration I have tried.
And that IS the one I owned as a kid, just repainted a bit!
