After 15 years on Mars, one of NASA's most successful rover
missions has ended. Opportunity rover went dark on June 10 2018, following an
especially heavy dust storm. NASA has tried in vain to reconnect with the
rover, but after a final attempt on Tuesday, they declared the mission to be at
an end. Designed to last just 90 martian days and travel 1,000 yards, the rover
travelled over 28 miles, recording beautiful blue sunsets and discovering ice
on Mars. Its twin Spirit, ceased function on March 22 2010.
Beautifully sad and poignant, just like the human condition.
ReplyDeleteI love that it had a twin called Spirit. Lovely piece Bill. How did you take the photo?
ReplyDeletePart of me wants to cry shenanigans, too many photos with what looks like building rubble, areas that are pixelated out too! Loads of private companies investing heavily in space, which is great for the likes of us that get excited by this, but the flip side of this is that companies only invest in areas that will eventually turn a profit, who or what is there to trade with? Most exploration of earth was related to trade so in my mind there has to be more to it than just being first?? Trump's announcements on Space Force are another factor, also there's now a company that licences live broadcasting from craft that enters space, wtf!! What does that even mean?? -Mark J Southcoast Base
ReplyDeleteSo your'e skeptical about whether Ares was a real mission MJ?
DeleteNot initially, I've had to accept that there's stuff I don't understand and after seeing the triangular vehicle pass behind the ISS almost 3 years ago I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole and there's no return!- Mark J Southcoast Base
DeleteWooo - where to start? First off Woodsy, its the Opportunity rover that has conked out, its twin was Spirit, which stopped functioning in 2010. The toy pictured is the earlier Pathfinder mission, a toy from Hotwheels.
ReplyDeleteMark - got to say that these mission shots are incontravertibly real, the lunar module can be seen on the surface of the moon with a terrestrial telescope and one of the mission equipment devices still reflects laser light. Mars may look like a heap of rubble, but the negative effect of doing a Capricorn One and staging a fake mission would be way too damaging politically to risk. Finally, whats the triangular ship and the ISS?
update - I found the video ofvthe Dragon capsule andvthe flying triangle. Theres clearly something moving behind the solar panel, but I dont think its a massive spaceship, as claimed by excitable youtubers! Looks like a piece of space junk or mylar sheeting to me.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right Bill, I've never felt that anything NASA has done is fake unfortunately I do think they are not giving the public the whole truth. Now, I get regular emails from NASA to let me know when the ISS passes over my post code, June 5th 2016 10.45pm I observed the ISS pass over and to the rear I spotted a red light, thinking it was a satellite I turned to watch this this instead, the light had an additional 3 red lights one at each corner of a equilateral triangle and another on the bottom right moving slowly to the left, it took 30 seconds to cross the sky at the same relative speed as the ISS. The following day I asked a customer to check the camera feed for the stated time which was inconclusive so he emailed NASA and they said it was cube-sats that I saw, science experiments 4-12" across at a height of 200 miles shot from the rear of the ISS, these are not controlled so for these to perform a sharp right turn I find hard to believe, I've tried hard to debunk what I saw with the aide of customers in the aerospace industry, all have had ideas except one who announced it was a plane adding it's not something he has worked on although he works for lockheed martin in the aviation/defence industry. Also another customer has been based at Edwards Air force Base, I told him this story," oh you've seen the aurora" then added Edwards is next to the skunkworks facility and then next to a NASA airbase!! He couldn't talk about what he's seen, specifically if it was in the air "you haven't seen a thing" also check out apollo 11's medical channel transcripts! Very interesting! - Mark J Southcoast Base
ReplyDeleteQuestion: How many conspiracy theorists does it take to change a lightbulb ?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: How do we know there is a lightbulb, and in who's interest is it that we should think it needs changing ?
Mish.
I know it sounds crazy! Your joke reminds me of another joke I heard. How many Star Trek fans does it take to change a light-bulb? Two, one to change the bulb, the other to prefer the original!- Mark J Southcoast Base
DeleteHa ha great jokes! Aurora is a fave topic of mine, something that we have looked at indirectly on the blog, with reference to the hypersonic test vehicles by Lockheed Martin, which may have influenced the design for the Scout series.
ReplyDeleteTBH with all the private interest in space development now - Elon Musk sending his sports car into orbit for example - god alone knows whats up there. The Tr-3B triangular ship which is allegedly visible on the ISS feed had a patent published for it! if there is anything untoward or undisclosed going on in space, you can guarantee its military activity, not extra terrestrial. Trumps Space Force idea will not be to combat aliens, but to drop H.A.L.O troops and ordnance on any nation who he takes a dislike to. I would love it if there was a confirmed alien presence in space, but I think it will turn out to be something utterly mundane.
At least we seem to be on the same page Bill, too many loony liars online, I recently got into a spat with a guy who believed in everything that Billy Meier teaches, phew what a loony! You guys could totally do an article on how not to fake ufo photos and he claims to have a particle weapon too!! Very funny!! - Mark J Southcoast Base
