Arto's Nomura Cosmic Ray Machine Gun and H.G.Wells

Hello Woodsy

Took those piccies of the Nomura Cosmic-Ray Machine Gun (Just hope Bill won't blow his fuse - TINPLATE AGAIN!)

The octopi-like aliens found on the barrel feature also on this Japanese sonosheet by Morinag on Ebay.

Woodsy adds: here's the entry for the toy gun on Alphadrome, where the alien motif is mentioned but unidentified

Woodsy also adds: the octopus alien looks just like the ones Bill posted a while back too!

As for its identity, all these are based on this original French illustration by M. Dudouyt, an engraving from a 1917 edition of War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells [thanks Bill.]

  1. Ace vintage tinplate ray gun, Arto. I love these things!
Makes sense to have one or two, just in case 'they' invade :)

  2. Happy New Year Tony! I'm glad you share my fancy, there is something ethereal in the octopoid appearance of these aliens (though not in their intentions, thence the armament!)

  3. I've temporarily lifted my tin embargo for this, as octopoids aside, its a fine example of a ray gun toy. i love the deep blue finish, very sinister! Ray guns are something i could seriously be tempted into collecting!

  4. Just curious, what's one of these worth? Just happen to have the same ray gun still in box. Mint condition never used

    1. Sorry, we don't do valuations. Check the Sold sales on Ebay perhaps. Great toy!
