ReplyDeleteIn Wielkopolska, Kujawy, Pałuki, Kashubia and West Pomerania Christmas presents are traditionally brought by Gwiazdor, Saint Nicholas brings presents on December 6.
In Małopolska, the gifts are left under Christmas tree leaves by an angel, whereas on the night of 5 to 6 December Santa Claus brings gifts.
In Upper Silesia and the Czech Republic, Christmas presents are bring by the child (identified with the figure of Jesus Christ). At December 6 presents are from Santa Claus.
In Cieszyn Silesia presents are gifted by angel on Christmas day.
In Lower Silesia, Christmas presents are gifted by a star.
For the inhabitants of the Tarnogrodzki Plateau, Christmas gifts are brought by dwarfs. Saint Nicholas brings gifts only on December 6.
Especially in the north and west of Poland, the opinion that Santa brings gifts twice a year, at Christmas, and on his patron saint day - December 6th
Fab info Ran. So much diversity in those countries. I love the idea of dwarves bringing gifts. The name Silesia always makes me think of a mint boxed model I once found at a car boot sale here in the UK, the Pyro Silesian Rifle. It was a wonderful model, which I got for a few pence.
