RANTERS YARD. VINTAGE TOYS IN BARNARD CASTLE

Whilst on a Yorkshire Dales break at the start of the week we went into a collectables shop.

It was in Barnard Castle on our way home. It was good to see a decent range of vintage toys in there. The owner was obviously a toy fan like us.

The vintage selection included a genuine Captain Scarlet cap and intercom released by Century 21 in the Sixties I think ( or was it Montrose or another firm? - see my post from 5 years ago http://projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2013/04/captain-scarlet-toy-outfits.html?m=1)

The owner kindly showed me how the intercom worked by pulling it down from a recess in the clear plastic visor towards the mouth.

The cap was life size and made of durable slightly soft plastic.

Other toys in the shop were: an unusual Jonny Sokko rifle by MARX and a Japanese company (Tsukadaya?). The cool box art showed Sokko fighting various Kaiju. There was also a plastic toy rifle with real bolt action by Marx and another Japanese toy rifle called Tommy Matic 5 I think.

An assortment of Gerry Anderson die-casts looked good too.

I chatted to the friendly owner. He'd not been open long. Choosing a shop over Ebaying and toy fairs is a brave move these days and I wish him all the best in this new venture.

The shop is called Ranters Yard and is situated on the sloped high street in Barnard Castle, County Durham, England.

You can read more in this local newspaper article. Some of the toys I mention are at the back of the picture.
