A RETURN TO SPACE 1999: THE ALIEN

Hello Woodsy,

I bought this kit last weekend inspired by all the SPACE 1999 Scoop's been posting lately.

It seems to be a reissue copywritten 2013. Was this ever something that appeared on the show?

Postscript from Woodsy:

Here's the original MPC kit The Moon Scope courtesy of Pinterest. It is sort of similar to the Space 1999 ALIEN.

and here's the real Moonscope!
Note the standard wheels on this one.

  1. I love those ultra wide wheels and the design between go-kart and minature buggy/baja car.
Last time I have seen Space 1999 was around year 2000 when they played it in public TV at Sunday mornings. No Idea if it was in the show, but I know that now I need it in my life.

  2. Its got absolutely no relation to Space 1999, and is loosely related to the George Barris Moon Buggy : http://www.barris.com/carsgallery/noveltyproduct/moonscope.php

Not a bad little kit for parts, the wheels especially, but no bearing at all on 1999!

  3. Terra - does this version include a base and figure ? I got the straight moonbuggy version which was just the car, no 1999 branding.

  5. The only loose connection - and it's VERY loose - I can find is that it slightly resembles a buggy driven by an invading alien force in a story from Look-in's comic strip version drawn by the great Mike Noble. Alternatively it's maybe a pre-production prototype of the 2-man buggy they rode around in but the design was altered before shooting in a similar way to the original Eagle design by Chris Foss?

  7. Looks like Terranova's kit is a re-issue by Round 2 models, which released this commemorative box https://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/mpc/kit_mpc_0795.shtml

  8. Just to put my mind at rest, I discovered that AMT also reissued the Moonscope with the same body shell and four wheels as The Alien - which is the one that I had.
