Who Watches the Watchmen?

Zack Snyder's seminal film Watchmen, is possibly the best DC visualisation ever, largely for its amazing fidelity to its comic source. Although the ending differs massively from the original and a central sub theme of the Black Freighter comic is missing from the film, the movie is stunning. The visual appeal stems from Snyder's use of mise-en-scene to ensure the film frame match the comic panels flawlessly. The characterisation of the actors is amazingly good, with even incidental characters like the psychiatrist and newsman matching Dave Gibbons original vision perfectly. Snyder also adds in a further dimension to the alternate future tale by dropping in xameos from Mick Jagger, Bowie and Andy Warhol, as well as Fidel Castro and others.

  1. It is an amazing film. Like the death of the eighties and super heros in one. Unlike anything else. Have you seen Birdman bill? A self Ware essay on once playing a super hero in a film ie. Batman!
