  1. Good selection, Woodsy :) The clip you've chosen from Fantasia is still unsettling to watch, even today. For me it conveys a time when the world was in the grip of an uncertain war.

    1. Thanks Tone. I'm sure readers would come up with many more really good clips for Halloween. Its the black and reds swirling in the darkness that appeal to me in both of these, two different manifestations of the same evil. I can't really imagine what it was like to experience the build-up to World War II, apart from the menacing experiences my parents shared with me. Tolkien started Lord of the Rings in 1937 as the whiff of war was in the air. I only really discovered Fantasia late on in my life. Not sure I ever saw it as a kid anywhere. Maybe clips like this one. I did find a couple of decent records based on the film in Charity shops over the years. Its a lovely gatefold album with a central colour booklet full of superb artwork from the movie. I think it was Disney's own Buena Vista label. Long gone now.

  2. A third scene that IMO is almost at the same level is this one from Disney's "The Black Cauldron" (from miute 1:05) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWAq4w1h--M

    1. I see what you mean SR. Beautifully dark animation. Could almost be Lord of the Rings as well! The Black Cauldron passed me by. I will have to watch it now! Ta!

    2. Yup, The BC is one of the less known Disney movies, and, the only one that, FWIK, in some countries was forbidden to people under 14 years, exactly for that cauldron scene.. :-)

    1. Lovely eerie animation SR. Again, not one I know at all. Is that from the Heavy Metal movie?
