From the Depths

A blast from the past to start off the proceedings, Woodsy and I were talking on the Swordcast recently about submarine toys and a prominent example is the amazing Ranetta Submarine. Spanish manufacturer Ranetta created this wonderful sub with more than little Gerry Anderson style about it, whether intentional or not its hard to say. Dating approximately from the early seventies, this large toy measures a good 18 inches long and takes large C cell batteries in the hull. The front nose is removable to reveal a watertight pod for the batteries and a switch at the tip. When I first got it in the early days of the blog, I had to redeco it as a SWORD vehicle, reminiscent of the Oceania and Sea Sword vehicles in the wonderful Project SWORD annual.

  1. I nearly bought one of these once. Beginning to regret not doing so now!

  2. There seems no end of toys being featured on the blog which are new to me, Bill. This one is no exception. Pretty impressive size for a 70s toy sub :)
