BOX CLEVER

Woodsy's comments about box art etc reminded me of a recent foray into that department myself. As a huge Micronauts fan, one of the great things about the later releases was the beautiful Ken Kelly artwork. Kelly studied under the great Frank Frazetta and his Micronauts artwork is sublime.

A favourite of mine is the box art for the Terraphant, an elaphantine tank. Kelly depicts it rolling over a war torn landscape, piloted by Micronauts aliens. When I got a new Teeraphant recently, loose, I decided to try and recreate the art using the actual toys. With the help of a little photoshop to take out the background under the tracks, add a stray planet and a few laser beams, heres the final product!

  1. Love it Bill. very niftily done. I thought your picture was the box art! Its a great idea and I'd love to see it done with the Tarheel SWORD toys!

  2. Its comparatively easy to do Woodsy - especially with the Tarheel toys, which used simple mechanical effects and no digital jiggery-pokery.

  3. Super piece of work, Bill. I've not seen the Terraphant before. It does look like a lot of hands-on fun to me. Forward the Micronauts!
