Do you agree with the answer as to what Operation SWORD actually is?
Could well be a planned attack on the Mysteron Complex as a year later in TV21 they were defeated. (Although they fled the solar system vowing to return - leaving the door open for a new series)
ReplyDeleteI reckon Operation Sword was the start of Professor John Claws project to defeat the Mysterons. It's very likely that Gerry Anderson was directly involved in the resolution of that story.

DeleteI guess the mention of SWORD was contrived during the filming to give a little extra omph to the toy sales. I suppose, as Project SWORD was set some 800 to 900 years in the future, there could have been a loose intention to tie up the two.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is, it is connected as its too good a link for the writers to not be deliberate. Had TV21 not been winding down after April/May 1969 and continued for another couple of years we possibly would have seen an origin/linking story between Spectrum and SWORD. Perhaps, SWORD is a future evolution of Spectrum?
