FOUR ACTRESSES

As an ardent film fan I thought I'd mention four actresses who have caught my eye of late. Some young. Some old

Ivy Rhodes. Ivy stars in my infant Grandson's favourite song video on You Tube, Baby Shark. Once you've heard it you can never forget it! Ivy went on to star in horror films of all things!

Joanne Whalley starred as the murdered daughter in Edge of Darkness, the seminal 80's TV eco-drama. It was an excellent role. She also starred in Willow, a fantasy film I've never seen. Joanne went on to marry the leading man, Willow himself, Val Kilmer.

Mia Sara was the beautiful young star of Legend alongside the love-struck Tom Cruise. Mia redefined the black dress in that film! She went on to marry the son of Sean Connery and later the son of Jim Henson.

Angela Mao Ying was the female star at the start of Enter the Dragon. She played Bruce Lee's sister. Angela was also known as Lady Kung Fu and starred in her own martial arts films like Hapkido. She now runs restaurants in New York!

Do you know any interesting actress connections? Have you met any?

  1. First came across Joanne Whalley in a tv drama, A Kind of Loving. Then, oddly enough I was watching this the other day, she starred in Dennis Potters seminal Singing Detective! Mia Sara opposite Tim Curry as Darkness was brilliant. Not seen her in owt else!

    1. Not seen a Kind of Loving Bill or the Singing Detective. Showing my gaps again! She was ace in legend and the interplay between Darkness and Lilly is stunning film making. 'All I ask is for a little polite conversation' or something like that from a guy with two-foot bison horns on his head! The goblins were excellent too, prescient of Jackson's Orcs and goblins in Lord of the Rings years later and just as good.

  2. Mia Sara made an appearance at Monstermania in Cherry Hill NJ some years ago.Did not get an autograph but I was curious to see her after so many years since Legend and Ferris Beuller's Day Off.IMHO she's just as lovely, the only difference was a shorter hair style.

    1. Her darkness Dance was pure gothic in Legend Brian so it must be great seeing her in real life. You've met everybody!
