I remember The Impossibles. They were possibly some of the first superheroes I saw on Telly. I liked Muliti Man the most. You've done very well digging them out of the Moonbase Archive, Woodsy :)
Multi Man eh! Yep, they were all super cool really. Do you have the Annual that came out Tone? I got it one Xmas and adored the thing. Picked one up from a car boot about 15 years ago. Like seeing an old friend!
Going to side with Tony as Multi Man was my fave of the three. They also kind of reminded me of the three stooges, probably due to the body types. Frankenstein Jr was good especially as Ted Cassidy aka Lurch from the Addams Family provided his voice. Ted's voice was distinctive in any show he worked on. Touching briefly on Frankie's creator, what an awesome almost Andersonesque name, Buzz Conroy.
The theme of young boy controlling a giant robot is not new and Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor) proceeded this show by 2 years. Then 2 years after Frankie, we got Giant Robo (Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot). Ah the 60's.
I didn't know the Lurch connection lance so thanks for that. Yep, Buzz is a brilliant name and as far as I know not used at all in Britain for some reason. Buzz Aldrin was reason enough to use it and now Buzz Conroy? Was the Impossibles Annual available in the US?
I do not recall an annual here in the states. A few years back there was a mini series of comics that tied a lot of H&B series together. The ones I recall off the top of my head were Mighty Mightor, Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, Birdman, Herculoids, Frankenstein Jr, The Impossibles. The series was called Future Quest.
I don't recall any real merchandising for The Impossibles and only recall owning the Frankenstein Jr Big Little Book.
A quick check reveals "A single issue of a "Frankenstein Jr. and the Impossibles" comic was released by Gold Key Comics in 1966 as a tie-in to the TV series, and the contents were reprinted in "The Impossibles Annual" by Atlas Publishing & Distributing Co. Ltd, UK in 1968." Still, always good to see things reach other shores.
I may have Jonny Quest on VHS in the attic. May even be a Big Box. The Impossibles Annual was one of my fave books as a kid and I was chuffed to pick one up at a boot sale. Would you like me to pick one up for you Lance should I see another?
That would be wonderful but don't go out of your way looking for one and if it is priced insanely, give it a pass. A few years back they released the original Jonny Quest series on DVD. The only downside to it is that two episodes were slightly edited. In one Jonny trips an asian bad guy and says "Here comes the orient express" so that line is no longer heard. The second edit is from a different episode where Race calls a tribe of headhunters "...heathen monkeys..." Thank goodness they didn't cut out the smoking and people being shot (at) or we'd just have 8 minute long episodes haha. Both unedited episodes can be found on Youtube.
