MY BROWN LAWN IS NO GOOD FOR SUMMER TOYS

I want to get out into the garden and mess with a few old toys this weekend but I have a problem.

The lawn is turning brown in large areas and I find it hard to not focus on that rather than my hobby!

There could be different reasons I suppose for brown lawns. It has been very warm this early summer and what I'm seeing could be drought damage.

On the other hand our dog seems to be killing off round patches of grass when he pees. Don't know what to do about that!

The other possible culprit is my mower. Could it be that I'm mowing to deep and cutting the lawn too short?

What do you think readers? Have you got a slowly-browning lawn that's distracting you from your toys?

  1. We haven't seen rain here for more than a month and a half, and still I hear in radio that it is raining all the time in my region

  2. I took the root of ASTRO turf years ago, it still looks great, animals don't want to soil it, it's warm to the touch all year round and once it's done it requires almost zero upkeep - Mark J

  3. Am I right in thinking your garden has quite a few trees in it like mine, Woodsy? If there's little or no rain during a hot summer, then basically the trees suck all the moisture from the ground so there's nothing left for the grass. Which dries and dies unless we hose it regularly.

    1. We're surrounded by trees and tall hedges Paul. Yep. I've taken to watering the lawn now and then now.

  4. Sounds like a job for .............. ASTRO TURF. Mild mannered and green, able to sit in the shade, survives with or without rain, and plays well with toy soldiers, clockwork toys and toddlers.

    2. You could be right about your mower's blade being too low Woodsy so perhaps bring it up a notch. Failing that you could always dig out a set of 70's Airfix British Infantry (1/32) and recreate scenes from "The Wild Geese" ;-)
