DEANNA LUND

I’m  reading some unconfirmed reports of the passing of actress Deanna Lund, best known for her role as feisty heiress, Valerie Scott in the cult TV series ,’Land of The Giants’.

Although at the time of me posting this, there’s been no official news release, however, it has been talked about on several unofficial social media news sites, in particular The Hollywood Show FB page and Entertainment Zone.  Director Jim Wynorski who worked with Deanna on his 1989 film Transylvania Twist also mentioned her on his own FB page. Following this it’s been widely talked about on several Irwin Allen and LOTG sites.

Deanna played the mini-skirted and headstrong, Valerie Ames Scott in Irwin Allen’s Land of The Giants.  After the series finished, she went on to marry her co-star, the late Don Matheson, who played engineering industrialist, Mark Wilson. The two did divorce some time later.

Land of The Giants had a recent run of repeats here in the UK, and by all accounts proved popular with the broadcaster. I can remember during the series’ first run in the late sixties, as a reader of magazines’, Joe90: Top Secret and TV21 enjoying comic strip adventures of ‘The Little People’ featuring art by Gerry Haylock.  The first couple of issues showed a truncated version of the TV episode ‘The Crash’.

Deanna, of course, is very much a fan favourite, and has made many appearances at conventions in the USA. She even released a novel called Valerie in Giant Land in 1992.

If the reports prove to be sadly true, our sincere condolences to her family.

  1. Sad news Scoop. Deanna was an essential part of the Giants and I always enjoyed her character and her acting. Her fashionable outfits were always a welcome splash of colour too. My commiserations to the family.
