Back in 2013 I posted this gallery of images resembling the SpaceX Photonic Space Station toy.
Ever since first seeing the black and white adverts for the SpaceX toy [above left] I was smitten. What a marvel - as these images show.
The top middle image, the red station, repeated on the stamp bottom right, was painted by one Robert Fetterly.
The painting is signed. Its featured more prominently on blog friend Paul Vreede's superlative Triang SpaceX toys website:
There's very little else I could find online about Robert Fetterley.
In 2005 he was still alive when the Peninsula Times celebrated his work with a short biography:
There is sadly reference online to his death in 2009. He was 88. He was born in Canada and this site includes a short biography and a photo of him as a young man.
I looked up the Pacific Science Center, where Robert worked, on Wiki and this is the entry for the 1960's
There are also some wonderful old images of the Center back then on the Visiting Vintage site.
As regards Robert's art I found one old and intriguing Ebay listing but no pictures:
The only other illustration I could find online was for the Sci-Fi story The Slaves of Gree, which you can find easily.
Have you come across Robert Fetterly?
We have multiple paintings by Mr Fetterly that were painted especially for my father. Is there a market for these originals?
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to see pictures of Mr. Fetterley's paintings you have, which I could post here to garner some interest. There is always interest in space art, especially vintage artists like Mr. Fetterly.
