odd words again

Leafing through my beloved Toys of the Sixties book by Bill Bruegman I realise that there are quite a few American words I don't really know the meaning of.

Let me know if you do readers!

Two for now:

syndication
roit-spray

  1. Syndication is a style of Television broadcasting, to whit;"Broadcast syndication, where individual stations buy programs outside the network system" It means shows (like the original Star Trek) that aren't being shown on the major networks can still get some exposure in regional markets.
I assume "roit-spray" is pepper spray or Capsicum spray (as we Aussies say) -a distillation of irritants that is sprayed into people's faces to take their minds off rioting, or standing up for their rights...

    1. Thanks for that Lewis. Its a difficult concept for a Brit, Syndication, as we had so few TV channels when I was a kid that everything was on nationally with variations for Wales and Scotland. We have loads more channels now - mosty dross - and still all national.

I'm wondering If I've seen just a typo of Riot in Bill B's book now!
