NEW YORK'S MODERN SPACE TOYS

Hello Woodsy,

I was in NY's Chinatown this afternoon and saw these in a store.

Space Pinball. Sadly not Dan Dare.

Astronaut of some kind and some wind-up robots.

Maybe of interest.

    2. Looks are everything. The clockwork walking mechanism was feeble and they just gyrate on the spot. A pity because they looked like they were from Ro-busters in early 2000AD.

    3. Did you read 2000AD Terran?

    4. I not only read it from issue one but I still have the first few years run safely stored. The new Dan Dare was a waste of space but Judge Dredd and RoBusters more than made up for it. As I was living in the US in 1977 they were held for me by my parents until my next visit. Then it was like a 'wet playtime' at school when you got to stay indoors and read a pile of comics.

    6. They are in the US having been carried back in batches from trips to the UK. During the 70's I had some very strange encounters with US Customs agents due to luggage that was mostly toys or comics. The strangest one was about 1977. Dr Who, the Tom Baker version had started to be shown on US TV. It was broadcast Saturday mornings and developed quite a following.

Going through Customs I had a bag full of the Dr Who Marvel comic. The Customs Agent said he was a Little League baseball coach and his kids were not turning up because they wee home watching Dr Who. I seriously thought he was going to confiscate the lot for his own use to impress back his Little Leaguers.
