B I R D B R A I N

Sometimes shards of memories stutter back to mind like old satellites.

One landed this week as I half-remembered a small toy from my yoof.

It was a miniature metal bird-cage with a plastic bird sat inside on a perch. Nothing unusual there. The neat bit was the rubber cage bottom, which when pushed up and down with a short metal pin it whistled and peeped like a little canary.

It might not have even been a toy at all but rather classed as one of those oddities known as fancy goods back then [do they still exist?].

Did you have anything like this? Were they made in Hong Kong.

  1. Yes, we have one, made in China, mostly of wood.
    Think they are still made.

    1. Wood Andy? really? Mine was thin metal wire with a rubber bottom.

  2. I had a plastic cage, think you pulled the hanger on the top and made the bird jump up and down as the rubber plunger in the bottom squeaked
