Aoshima Tiger Captain

A motorized SF tank with a "little" inspiration from Captain Scarlet, yes? 1967.

  2. Perhaps this is the legendary "Zeus Tank" referenced in the TV21 publications?

  4. Yep, I almost fell on the floor when I saw this beauty at Polks Hobbycraft in NYC in the Spring of 1970. I immediately recognized the "inspiration" from Captain Scarlet, and thought the addition of the boxy half-track at the tail was utterly hilarious. There is a copy of this model kit (as "New Tiger Captain") available for sale at Mandarake in Japan, for the bargain price of $930 US! A little out of my budget, but...

    1. Holy moly, that's a lot of moolah Zigg. Is Polks still going in NYC?

    2. Sadly Polks store is long gone. They continued on line for a number of years but the 2008 recession ended the market for their large scale Aristo-trains range.

    3. Woodsy, just to clarify, I did not pay 930 smackers for this baby! Back in 1970, I think I paid ten bucks! But if you wanted to buy the vintage kit today, it is available at a vintage toy store in Japan for about $930... That's way out of my budget. I definitely overpaid for the Space Command Tank model I got on ebay recently, and that was a fraction of what the Tiger Captain is going for. In general, these rare SF kits are out of my reach these days, but once in awhile I luck out, or go on a splurge...
