Here's a couple of photos taken by Anderson toy collector, Gareth Nichols of a 1960's Japanese tin plate toy produced by Diato.
As we can we can see there's a Thunderbird 1 and Thunderbird 2 painted on the deck, as well as 007 on the side.
Gareth would love any info some of you lot might have. This type of Anderson inspired detail was fairly common on things like this, so anyone?
Here's a pic of a very similar boat, Woodsy has tracked down. As Woodsy says, no pop culture and no makers name, but the chase is on...
Fascinating! I love Gareth's mystery boat Scoop! Superb how it mixes two icons of Sixties pop culture on a speedboat! One like it sold this month. As regards the toy, I looked up Diato. Nothing. Daito however took me to this on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_swle_ODDM We've got James Bond! Just need Thunderbirds now! The search goes on Mister Tracy!
ReplyDeleteThis is a similar design - without the pop culture - but no makers mark! https://www.etsy.com/listing/470979194/vintage-1960s-japan-tin-litho-12-speed
ReplyDeleteThat certainly looks similar Woodsy, I'll post a pic of it for comparison. Cheers
