Mark J: Pilot of the Future





Hi Woodsy

Growing up I was lucky to inherit some amazing annuals and also go to great 2nd hand book sales, the latter gave me a knowledge of old sci-fi that took me years to catch up on. 

The imagery of Space Kingsley drew me directly to Things to come. The Lion annual was a poor version of Dan Dare to me but the action of that cover still blows me away for its realism!! 

I know I've seen Space Kingsley models on your site, have any readers been inspired to build pre-1960's sci-fi models?

    Yes- and am currently thinking about building a small Flash Gordon spaceship.
    Ron Jobson, who did part of the Kingley Annuals was a good artist (he did the larger pictures, not the strip cartoons) and also did wartime posters featuring aircraft.

    Me too, gorgeous covers Mark. That 1958 Lion Annual cover shows more a less what the Star Wars AT AT was to become 20 years later!
