With the German New Years wish Ein Guten Rutsch reminding me of 'a good slide', did you ever slide any toys down a string or a washing line?
I suppose the actual toy that really did this as part of its operation was Flight Deck by Airfix. Now that was cool!
But it inspired me to send Action Man down various cables and strings including the nylon wash line in the garden!
With is gripping hands I can still hear him screaming weeeeeeeeeeee! ha ha
What did you do?
Two toys I can think of right away.GI Joe's Adventure Team Training Center had a tower with a zip line that Joe could ride from the top. Also, the Mego Superheroes Supervator, which I find difficult to describe.Try an online search for that one.Lastly, I just bought a Star Wars Rogue One Imperial AT ACT walker that has a zip line for the Stormtroopers to ride.bought it on sale at a two third's discount.Gotta love after Christmas sales.
ReplyDeleteSuperb toys Brian! Zip line! That's the phrase I was looking for. I sent my Action Man zip lining down my Mum's washing line! Great fun. That ACT Walker sounds like a bargain. Zip lines and Star wars always makes me think of Luke zooming round and round an AT AT's legs with his winch line eventually toppling it. A great scene that's stuck in my memory. I think it was Empire.
DeleteTwo vintage Action Man sets which I didn't have as a kid were Bullet Man and the Space Explorer outfit, Woodsy. Both tailor made for fly-by-wire fun. Like yourself, I improvised, resorting to the tried and tested Death Slide washing line assault course :)
ReplyDeleteGreat memories Tone. The Palitoy Washing Line Death Slide! Yay!
DeleteMajor Matt Mason had a jet pack on a string. The pack could be mounted on the sled which was designed to use the same string action through a clever tiny hole at the bottom of the detachable control column. Although you had to keep it on the ground as it was quite top heavy.
ReplyDeleteHot Birds. Those lovely metal little known cousins of Hot Wheels. They had a flight system consisting of a spring shaped holder to connect the plane to the line which was fishing line. The beauty of holding the line taunt while this heavy metal plane kind of slid/stuttered down the line made an excellent speaker and produced kind of a jet enginey sound. Not sure if that was by design or just a coincedence but it was great.
I think I had that MMM Jet Pack Lance. Fantastic Stuff. Mattel really did push the boat out to create such a fabulous Major Mat range for us young Buzz Aldrins to savour!
DeleteI have a vague memory of Hot Birds but it could be because someone has told me about them years ago on this blog! I know I had little Zowies by Mattel. Hot Birds sound ace especially the slight system!
