I've just finished admiring Jeff J's amazing Sears Rocket Base. That is a top quality piece of vintage toy rocketry!
At the other end of the scale, those aspiring moon-shot men of yesterdays Hong Kong toy industry weren't to be left out of the Space Race.
Here's a couple of snaps showing one of their colourfully ambitious attempts to reach the stars :)

ReplyDeleteHiya Kid, ha ha, yes I see what you mean. There's something to the look. It's Gilbert's 1/6 spaceman, Moon McDare, standing in to show scale of the HK Cape Kennedy :)

Not sure if you're aware of this? :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Woodsy. The partially visible instructions suggest that the discs fit into the rocket's nose cone. The spring loaded mechanism inside the rocket is then pushed down, locking the mechanism in place, ready to launch the satellite discs.
ReplyDeleteThe rocket can be fired from the red spring-loaded launch platform. It's a simple launch system, similar to Deluxe Reading's, Rocket Base USA. Yep Woodsy, good old spring loaded plastic rockets... the key to pioneering space toy technology back then :)
Thanks Tone. Its a beautiful hunk o' plastic for sure! Not too dissimilar to the to the Apollo Moon Exploring MLP.
