saturday night shocks: field rite

In an attempt to capture the spirit of those brilliant folk horror plays shown on British TV in the Seventies I've had a bash at one of my own!

Inspired by old creepy TV plays like Murrain and Robin Redbreast Field Rite was filmed entirely on my phone and edited using Movie Maker. This makes it sound far grander than it is and once again I found out how hard it is to actually make a film of any kind!

Like those Seventies plays there is no music. It relies on the ambiance of the place to enhance the hopefully menacing atmosphere of a field slope at dusk in Autumn. Its a combination of stills and video.

I enjoyed making it and I think Blue the dog did to. It was his first 'lead' role! ha ha

Do you like folk horror and have you filmed anything strange in your local landscape?

  1. Well, it made more sense than the Blair Witch Project;) I think Guillermo Del Torro is available to direct the sequel, just don't let Disney buy the rights:0

    1. Thanks Brian. I am indeed in illustrious company when you mention the Blair Witch project! oddly enough there is some controversy as to whether it was the first found footage horror film. Another film The Last Broadcast came out earlier I understand, filmed in the Pine Barrens in Jersey I think.

  2. Guerrilla filmmaking at its best, Woodsy. I enjoyed watching it. It looked like you were having great fun out there. Well done movie-man, and Blue - the method acting mutt :)

    1. Ha ha, guerilla film making, I like that term Tone, not heard that. It was a lot of fun and Blue earned his Jumbone on that shoot! I'm not keen on the found footage sub-genre really but it is by far the easiest way of filming when you walking around with a phone. I imagine that's why it became so popular with budding film makers. Do you like found footage films?

    1. The trees are quite scary at dusk on that hill Bill. They do seem like elemental beings!
