THUNDERBIRDS DAY

Last month ITV Studios Global Entertainment announced their first annual Thunderbirds Day will take place at 2.00 pm on September 30^th 2017. This has been heralded as a celebration of the original Thunderbirds series.

Apparently 52 Vue Cinema venues ( in honour of the 52 years since the series first aired) around the country will be screening Thunderbirds, and encouraging cosplayers to dress as their favourite Thunderbird characters.

Of course, as most of us know the original Thunderbirds TV series has already had two big screen spin offs during the sixties with Thunderbirds are Go and Thunderbird 6.

However, those of you expecting to see classic TV episodes like Trapped in the Sky, or The Man from Mi5 larger than life and  spread across the silver screen might be a little disappointed; the episodes being shown are of two new episodes from the second part of season 2 of the Thunderbirds are Go CGI series, soon to be shown on CITV.  Although no official starting date has been announced up till now, its speculated that 30th September would make sense as that was the air date for the original 1965 series.

The trailer that's been released showing scenes from the new series looks to be the usual exciting fast paced mix. There's even what looks like an homage to the original episode, ' Attack of the Alligators',  but this time using what appears to be a pair of bearded dragon lizards (I don't claim to be an expert on reptiles)

Looks like there's problems for Kayo and Shadow S, Volcano trouble, Thunderbird 4's seen flying through the air - oh, and it'll come as no surprise that the Hood's back.

There's some big name guest artists been announced too - Former Doctor Who, David Tennant,  Game of Thrones star, Emilla Clarke and Sherlock's Mark Gatiss will have special guest roles in the series.

As a bonus there’s also a screening of one of the 2015 fan funded Thunderbird 1965 episodes, which at least  attempts to show what the original series was all about, although why they couldn’t  just show an original proper episode  to remind everyone what a timeless TV series it was, I really don’t know. 

Thankfully, I don’t have the dilemma of deciding whether to go or not as I’ll be at the Fanderson Special Assignment Convention in Maidenhead during that weekend, but for those who have plans to visit their local Vue, hope it’s a FAB time!
