I recently got the DeAgostini Thunderbird 1 kit to go with my Thunderbird 2 Build.
At this point in time its only available direct from Japan, as DeAgostini in the UK have no plans to offer it in the UK.
As we've come to expect over the years from the Japanese, the packaging is really attractive and full of great product photos.
It comes with a thirty-two page magazine stapled to the lid, which is written in Japanese naturally, but packed full of painted cutaways and publicity photo features.
There's photos comparing the size of the Thunderbird 1 model against the Thunderbird 2 and rescue vehicles.
The Thunderbird 1 model is actually the 1/144 scale Aoshima kit repackaged, and there's photos in the magazine showing the original kit artwork. You can still pick this kit up, so for those who aren't interested in having the DeAgostini package, which is really the selling point, that might be another option.
The kit allows for either the landing legs down, with skis or wheels, or landing gear up. I'll be going for ski landing gear down as I reckon that's best for display.
As it is a kit it will need painting to get the best result, however DeAgostini do provide a couple of additional painted parts - a red nose cone and blue rear 'reactor' covers, which, along with the decals should give a plain, but reasonable look for those who prefer not to paint it.
I will, of course be painting it, but as it's there to compliment the Thunderbird 2 build I've decided I won't be putting much weathering on it, as I'm quite liking its show room look.
