My new GMAIL is driving me round the twist.
It calls emails Conversations and bundles them up into, well, conversations!
What happened to straight emails shown individually for God's sake!
Is this the future or am I simply out of the loop yet to be bundled?
I hate gMail, but recently Hotmail-call-me-Outlook has gone pretty much the same way, the only one which still behaves like I think they all should is Yahoo, and that's dying on its feet!

Freeserve has one month left before it expires too. We will live in a world run by Google and Apple one day. If they merge they'd be called Gaggle.
DeleteHeeeheeeheee! You forgot the third big broker...Microgaggle or Gagglesoft!
ReplyDeleteH
ha ha, I forgot them! And what about Twitter? We could end up with Twoogle, Apple Twitter, Twattle or MicroTwit!
DeleteYou can adjust the settings on the home page, woodsy. look at the little cogwheel, you can also make the inbox Compact, so your not overwhelmed by mail. See if you can import your old freeserve emails before they go belly up! Just add a POP server to the Gmail inbox. Check the help files, quick!
ReplyDeleteDone that, got the T-Shirt. I just don't like change. I like things staying the same for ever and ever!
DeleteWell let me be a lone dissenting voice then. I'll admit it took me a small bit of getting used to as well, until I looked upon those conversations much like the topics on an online forum. But I got the hang of them quickly, and do think they're an improvement. Esp if you try to find something again, and then get the entire thread in one conversation, which saves having to retrieve each and every single message. Plus your inbox just shows a list of those conversations, instead of a multitude of separate messages that could even belong to one single topic, or drown out another. My $.02 and a free world etc, but I find it more efficiently organised! :)

Well Paul, maybe there's hope after all! I shall stick with it. I just have to email everyone on my old email address with my new gmail one as for some reason I can't import my Freeserve contacts to gmail. Looks easy but it didn't work. My 48,000 emails on Freeserve are safely archived in Outlook on my old laptop. I'm pleased they're safe.
DeleteAha, good thing you still have your old emails then! Dunno about you, but old emails are now an established part (or possibly substitute) of my memory. :)
DeleteI've never used outlook, but couldn't you somehow export the contacts from that? If not, there must be some internal outlook file or other that stores them. And with a bit of luck one or the other could feed gmail. As my brother's employer often says: "you can't be the first to have that problem" so a bit of digging on the interwebs should tell you how to do it?
