I liked the Earth setting, even though it was very much 1966, rather than the implied furturistic time.

As youngster watching the film at my local Odeon, it's gritty locations were just like the bits of wasteland my mates and I used to play on. I didn't concern myself with the idea that the Dalek invasion just seemed to concentrate it's resources on taking over parts of the south of England with just three Daleks leading the campaign.
The Red Dalek was in command of the Dalek Flying Saucer, wiping out resistance and capturing prisoners.. The sight of the Dalek Saucer flying over London really impressed me as a kid.
The Gold Dalek was in overall command.
The Black Dalek was traditionally in charge, however in the film the Black Dalek oversees the Bedfordshire mining operation.
A great little set, Scoop! I like a lot of the Product Enterprise stuff. They made a superb range of Talking Daleks, in various sizes, colours, and even RC. Personally, I like both movies, but for different reasons. I've a positive bias towards the 1960s cinema Daleks, and also early '60s TV Daleks. The 'Invasion' micro movie Daleks tick all boxes for me, and are some of my own faves from the Product Enterprise range.
ReplyDeleteLike you, Tony I loved the Product Enterprise toys and models. As you say their Dalek range was huge. I've got the 4 larger Movie Daleks too, which are really nice but a bit big to display. I get them out occasionally and have them whizz round the floor, shouting lines from the film as they go. The thing about those is the Flying Saucer controller. I've got some pics of that that I'll repost.
DeleteThe large RC Daleks are brilliant. I can imagine to fun you have zooming them around the floor. I bought one a few years ago. Initially, our cats were terrified of the mechanical menace. Sadly, something malfunctioned and he refused to move. I'm not sure if it was a design flaw, or if the cats were behind it... or perhaps I was guilty of just playing it to death. I still think there's something very addictive and very satisfying about the RC Dalek. Hats off to you Scoop, for owning and enjoying a wonderful toy.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that your Dalek packed in for some reason. That's the problem with modern toys in that they're not easily fixed. I bought one of the smaller Infrared controlled movie Daleks from an NEC Memoribillia, got it home, and it worked for ten minutes. I did ring Product Enterprise about it, and they said they were out of stock of that type, however they were kind enough to send me a large R/C TV Dalek FOC which I was more than happy with.
