gary Sprake rip

When I was a kid I was a fan of leeds united football club in the late sixties early seventies.

They were so good even a geek like me knew talent when I saw it. They had the zazzle of Brazil and I remember all their names. I also had all their autographs.

I'm not a footy fan at all anymore but I did mark today's news with a tear in my eye.

Gary Sprake the goalkeeper of Leeds United back then has died. Rest in peace Gary.

    1. yep, they were Tone. Don Revie's men were mega talented. Its still strange that I liked them as I really didn't follow football. This admiration for Leeds stretched to a book of autographs, a letter from the club, a plastic football with printed autographs and I bought Shoot comic for a few years. I recall lots of the team's names besides Gary. Peter Latimer, Peter Lorimer, Norman Hunter and of course Billy Bremner!

  2. Like yourself, Woodsy, I supported Leeds Utd as a kid. It's surprising the number of grown-ups from the down here in the Midlands, who were kids in the at the same time, and who also supported Leeds. I guess they were very popular. Was it their working class appeal? Alan Clarke was my own fave Leeds player. My short-lived interest in soccer only lasted from 1970-73. Even now, this time frame has come to epitomise the best days of Leeds Utd and soccer, at least for me.

Admiration for getting so much memorabilia back then, Woodsy! That sounds like one impressive collection. Do you still have any of it? My own memories are of footballer bubble gum cards and team posters removed from magazines... all long since gone.

    1. I'm amazed you were a Leeds fan back then too Tone. It must have been a national phenomenon. Sadly I don't have any of my old memorabilia now. Like virtually everything I owned it was chucked as I grew older. I cringe when I think what else what chucked!
