Splashing Out

A summer acquisition was the Airfix Water Rocket, this time in red completing my tiny collection. I had the blue one way back in the seventies, but on a card backing as shown in this Airfix toy catalogue.

Essentially a large syringe, this red example needed a little tlc to bring it back to full health, but with the box, it looks great. Its pictured above with the Timpo/Park Plastics Two Stage Rocket, which was realeased around the same time.

Airfix also made a rather nice buildable rocket in the awful Betta Bilda series, a  british attempt to grab a slice of the Lego market, but due to the bricks weak grip strength, did not fare as well.

  1. That red Airfix Water Rocket is a nice find. I can't remember seeing the Betta Builda set before. Nice to see pics of it here, Bill.

  2. I will keep beating the drum....the British had 'a slice of the Lego market', Lego stole the idea from Hestair-Kiddycraft, who probably also licensed it to Airfix!
