Farewell R2. Kenny Baker dies at 83

A giant among actors, the diminutive Kenny Baker, driving force behind Star Wars iconic R2 D2, has died aged 83. May the Force be with him, always.

  1. Such terribly sad news Bill. Kenny did an iconic job of being R2D2 in 1977. He changed all our lives and gave us kids hope in a crazy adult world. Rest in peace Kenny.

  2. After I moved away from Preston I think Kenny lived on the same road where I grew up!

  3. Sad news. Met him a couple of times at some of the NEC memorabilias, and oddly enough Kenny was an Uncle to one of the assistant managers at my local pub, the Richmond.

  4. I'll always think of him as Fidgit from the Time Bandits (whose best friend Wally was played by Baker's real-life mate Jack Purvis).

  6. Hes done remarkably well, considering the privations he suffered to bring R2 to life!
